My war memorials campaign - 03:16 pm, Thu 13th Aug 2009

Dunscar War Memorial

The UK's war memorials are under threat from planners and developers and need more protection.

There are estimated to be over 100,000 war memorials in the UK and it is important that we preserve and protect them.

I'm calling on the Government to register all war memorials and make changes to the planning laws.

I was involved in the fight together with local residents to keep Dunscar War Memorial safe from development by securing listed status so it couldn't be moved.  I also recently helped get a memorial plaque added for John Stroud, who was killed on the HMS Glamorgan in the Falkland Islands in 1982.

Here I am pictured with Jean Stroud-Mort at the Dunscar War Memorial.
