Well done Canon Slade School
I paid a visit to Canon Slade School to congratulate the students and the school on being selected as one of the finalists in the Rolls Royce Science Prize. I was told how the Teachers have developed an innovative science project, in which students will monitorscience stories in the media to understand the motives of journalists and evaluate the news items on their scientific merit.
I congratulated the school on being selected as one of the nine finalists in this year’s Rolls-Royce Science Prize.I understand that as finalists Canon Slade School has been awarded £6,000 in prize money, which is to be used to develop the current project set up by the Teachers. The finalists project will be judged later next year, with the winner receiving £15,000 to spend on science teaching. This is a fantastic achievement and I wish them success in the competition.
The Rolls-Royce Science Prize is part of the company’s ongoing drive to promote science and engineering in schools by encouragingand rewarding inspirational science teaching.
