Drive For Justice

Drive For Justice

I am supporting the Drive For Justice campaign, and a I hope that you will too.

A senior Bolton judge has called on the government to increase the maximum jail term for dangerous driving in cases where a victim is seriously injured. The Bolton News has created this petition to urge the government to change the law.

14-year-old Devon Foster was left fighting for her life when a drink-driver lost control of the car he was driving and ploughed into her and four of her friends in Bromley Cross last month. Devon almost died and faces a long recovery, but the current rules mean the judge could only issue a maximum sentence of two years.

I shall be putting down an Early Day Motion in Parliament, hoping to win the support of many MPs on this issue to make the Government pay attention.

You can help too by adding your name to the petition. The more voices that can speak out together, the more likely we are to have our voice heard.

You can sign the petition by clicking here or the photo above. If you do, thank you, and please share the link with your friends and ask them to support the campaign.

Campaign Update: October 2011 - SUCCESS!

One year after the Drive For Justice campaign was formed the Government have agreed to introduce a new offence. Serious Injury By Dangerous Driving will be punishable by up to five years in prison.

This step forward was achieved thanks to the thousands of people who signed the Bolton News' petition and everyone who helped us to keep the spotlight on this injustice. I was pleased to see MPs support the Early Day Motion and that the Secretary of State for Justice took my many questions seriously.
