Neighbourhood Food Collection

DSC00962.JPG

This morning I visited the Tesco Express on Bradford Street and spoke to the manager there about Tesco’s Neighbourhood Food Collection.

All this weekend Tesco stores will be asking their customers to donate food to the Trussell trust and FareShare, and they will top up donations by 30%.

The growing use of foodbanks is a clear sign that this Government is fundamentally failing the people of this country. Poverty pay, the cost of living crisis and unfair benefits sanctions are all leaving people unable to feed their families.

I will keep working to ensure that we create a fairer society where nobody needs to visit a foodbank. Where people who can work know they will be able to and they’ll be paid a fair wage, and those people who can’t work will be supported and not punished.

But in the short term the fact that people are generous enough to make donations and give their time to run these foodbanks is positive, it shows that our society does still care. If you donate food at Tesco this weekend then thank you, it could make a real difference to a family here in Bolton.
