Re-open Bolton's NHS Walk-in Centre

SAM_0474.JPG

In July 2012 Bolton's Clinical Commissioning Group closed our NHS walk-in centre at Lever Chambers, claiming it created a demand that hadn't been there and other services could handle local health issues.

Today people are struggling to get an appointment with their GP when they need it, and A&E services are so stretched that it created a "major incident" in January with patients waiting over 12 hours for a bed. The walk-in centre would ease pressure on both of these services.

Join me in calling for the walk-in centre to re-open by signing my petition below.

We the undersigned agree that Bolton’s NHS walk-in centre at Lever Chambers should never have been closed. We call on Bolton’s Clinical Commissioning Group to reverse this decision and re-open the walk-in centre as soon as possible.

If Lever Chambers was re-opened, it would decrease the number of people who attend A & E desperate to seek medical help. It’s impossible to get a doctors appointment, even after calling the surgery at 8am.

With 2 young children, we have had to use this service several times in the past year and a half (though the waters meeting one). It has been invaluable to us, possibly life saving in the instance of sending my baby with a fever quickly to the children’s ward when a problem was identified out of hours. I would hope the service could continue for everyone in Bolton.

it would relieve A & E, It was very handy instead try spending £25 on a taxi from Bromley X to take an elderly parent to A & E because we have an Health Centre that can’t even do a blood/urine test/anything else.

I used the walk in centre several times for my children. Since it has closed, pharmacies seem to be unable to help and we’ve either had to travel further for the emergency doctor or, if lucky, get a late appointment with the doctor. We’ve usually managed because they will see children, but it’s not as easy and has meant use of taxi’s which is expensive. I also feel it takes away appointments from those who need to see a doctor (rather than a prescribing nurse who would have catered for our needs). The walk-in centre staff were always helpful and knowledgable and it’s a service we miss greatly.

Totally agree with this. More and more people are struggling to see the GP. I, myself have had to wait 16 days for a GP appointment last April. It is one of the reasons the A&E departments are crumbling under the massive strain of too many patients.

A complete ‘no brainier’ in my opinion.
