Across our town there are people who give their time and their effort to help our community. They don’t do it for money or even for praise they do it simply because they want to make a difference to Bolton and the people who live here.

Today is a day to recognise some of these brilliant volunteers for all that they contribute.

I nominated the Bolton Mountain Rescue Team for the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. This dedicated group of volunteers provide a search and rescue service which saves the lives of bikers, climbers, runners and horse riders as well as providing additional support to the emergency services. They deserve our thanks for all that they do. Today it has been announced that they will receive the award and I am extremely happy for them.

I am excited to see that other groups across Bolton have been recognised as well this year. Bolton Scout Trust, Urban Outreach and Xplode Magazine will also receive the Queen’s Award. Congratulations to everyone who has been awarded today.

Groups like these remind us of the community spirit that lies at the heart of Bolton. Thank you to all of the volunteers across Bolton for the positive impact that you make to our town.
