I was impressed at what they offer to customers through their Priority Service scheme, but I expect that many local residents may be missing out because they’ve never heard of it.

Their trained team can provide financial advice and support for people struggling to keep up with payments. If you need this kind of help there’s lots of extra information here.

The scheme can provide a wide range of extra help for those who need it. This includes:

  • A password scheme for vulnerable customers who may be fearful of bogus callers
  • A knock and wait arrangement for customers with limited mobility who take extra time to answer the door
  • Translation services for those who struggle with English
  • A nominee scheme for customers that may have difficulty communicating, allowing them to appoint a friend or family member to manage their account on their behalf
  • Braille, large print and audio bills are available for blind or partially sighted customers
  • Text relay is available for those with hearing difficulties
  • Personalised support for dialysis patients
  • Bottled water can be delivered if your water is off for more than 12 hours

There are over 1745 Bolton residents registered for Priority Services in Bolton.

In my constituency there are 463 people registered. 132 are disabled or have limited mobility, 43 receive extra support because of mental health, and 144 have signed up for the password scheme.

If you, or anyone you know, think you would benefit from this free service you can call the team on 0345 072 6093 or visit unitedutilities.com/priorityservices
