I know that many local residents are becoming increasingly concerned about crime and I share your concerns. It’s particularly worrying to hear about incidents of violent crime not being attended, which absolutely should be a priority.

The fact is that we don’t have the police officers we need to do the job. When Labour left office we had around 8000 officers in Greater Manchester and the police wanted to see that rise to 10,000. Under the Tories we’ve seen officer numbers fall to around 6000, and more job losses are expected.

I’ve put my name to a motion in Parliament this week to highlight the growing concern about violent crime and I hope that Ministers will treat this issue with the utmost seriousness that it deserves. https://www.parliament.uk/edm/2017-19/1843
