David Crausby Labour MP for Bolton North East
Following the Westminster Hall debate in January on the future of grassroots football I decided to follow up with Ministers and keep this issue on their radar.
I submitted a series of Written Questions to the Secretary Of State, asking about pitches and facilities as well as the current situation with the Premier League.
You can see my questions and the answers in full below.
One thing I think is worth highlighting is that the Minister comments that the Premier League has “reaffirmed their commitment”. This suggests that payments from the Premier League to grassroots causes will be the same over the next three year TV rights deal as they have in the last three years.
I had hoped that the Government would continue to push for a greater investment from the Premier League and I know that many people will be disappointed by apparent the lack of progress.
I hope you will consider signing this petition calling for the Premier League to give more back to grassroots football – https://www.change.org/p/government-impose-5-levy-on-the-premier-league-s-broadcasting-rights-back-into-grassroots
