Last week I visited DS Smith, a British-based sustainable packaging company, at their Bolton recycling facility.
As we seek to address climate change and our impact on the environment in general we need to embrace sustainable, low-carbon businesses and products as part of everyday life.
I visited the recycling depot, which employs 41 people, to find out more about DS Smith’s circular business model which is made up of packaging, paper and recycling capabilities. Their process allows them to collect, recycle and re-create a cardboard box in just 14 days.
Now that I have seen its recycling process in action I am far more aware of how everyday decisions and processes, such as the different bins we use, can have an impact for both the UK and the world around us.
We are the first generation that has truly understood the impact our actions are having on the environment around us. It is vital that Government and business work together to find sustainable solutions and I welcome DS Smith’s expertise in this area as both a member of my constituency and an international operator.
