Local rail commuters will be familiar with the frustration that comes when trains are delayed, or when one comes that is too full to board. Delay Repay is a compensation scheme introduced last year. If your journey is delayed by 15 minutes or more, for whatever reason, you are due compensation.
Since this scheme began I have been lobbying on behalf of local residents who use “multi modal tickets” that allow you to use a variety of transport services. For example, a System One County Card allows you to catch any bus and train in Greater Manchester. The Government said you should be able to claim for the train element if your service is disrupted, but Northern have not put that into practice.
Despite warm words that a solution would be found it seems that Northern have made no progress and intend to keep denying passengers the compensation that they are entitled to.
I recently wrote to Transport for the North to ask for their intervention in this matter given the ineffectiveness of the Department for Transport. You can read their response in full below and I will share any further updates as I receive them.
