On 16th July I wrote to the Transport Secretary to raise my concerns about the ongoing problems with Northern.
– We continue to suffer mass cancellations with limited notice because Northern still can’t manage their staffing arrangements.
– Commuters still can’t have faith that they can turn up at their local station and get to work or university on time
– Long-planned improvements have been pushed back.
– Temporary measures to address the problems, like the rail replacement bus services, have not been adequate and further added to the stress of local travel.
This week I have received a response to my letter from the Rail Minister and Minister for London Jo Johnson, rather than the Secretary of State for Transport Chris Grayling. You can read this in full below.
The Government’s response again shows that they are not taking the concerns of Northern commuters seriously.
They are patting themselves on the back for the reintroduction of some services after the timetable collapsed in May but there is no talk of holding Northern to account and there is no sense of urgency to deliver much needed improvements.
I will continue to campaign for our local railways, Bolton’s commuters deserve far better than this chaos under the Tories.
